Weight Converter

Convert mass between milligrams, grams, kilograms, metric tons, ounces and pounds. Compare precise results and choose your decimal places.

Convert your value

Runs in your browser

Use a decimal point, without commas. Scientific notation such as 1e6 is accepted.

Swap exchanges the units and keeps your entered value.

Pound (lb)

Result: 2.204623 lb

Displayed to 6 decimal places. Display rounding does not change the calculation.

Conversion formula

lb = kg × 1 ÷ 0.45359237

The factors express each unit in kg. Negative inputs represent signed changes.

How to use Weight Converter

Translate a parcel's mass, a food quantity or a bulk shipment between metric and customary units. Although commonly called a weight converter, this tool converts mass. Ounces and pounds are avoirdupois units, not troy units, and a metric ton means 1,000 kilograms.

  1. Enter a value, then choose the source and destination units. The result updates as you type.
  2. Use Swap to exchange the units while keeping your input unchanged. Use ± to change the input sign.
  3. Choose 0–10 decimal places for display. Copy result copies the displayed number and its unit.

How the conversion works

Use kilograms as the common base: multiply by the source unit's kilogram factor and divide by the destination factor. One pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, and one ounce is one-sixteenth of that pound.

Base-unit factors for weight converter
UnitOne unit in kg
Milligram (mg)0.000001 kg
Gram (g)0.001 kg
Kilogram (kg)1 kg
Metric Ton (t)1000 kg
Ounce (oz)0.028349523125 kg
Pound (lb)0.45359237 kg
  • A metric ton (tonne) is different from both a US short ton and an Imperial long ton; those units are not included.
  • This does not calculate force or account for gravity. Negative values can represent a signed mass change.

Calculations use browser number precision (about 15–16 significant digits). Extremely large or small results use scientific notation; values outside the numeric range show an error.

Reference: NIST unit conversion factors and temperature formulas. Squared and cubed units are derived from the international inch and foot; the acre uses 43,560 international square feet.

Practical examples

A 2.5-kilogram parcel

Input
2.5 kg
Result
2500 g

Multiply kilograms by 1,000 to get the parcel mass in grams.

One pound of ingredients

Input
1 lb
Result
453.59237 g

An avoirdupois pound equals 453.59237 grams before any display rounding.

A 0.75-ton shipment

Input
0.75 t
Result
750 kg

Three-quarters of a metric ton is 750 kilograms.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool convert mass or gravitational force?

This tool converts physical mass. While commonly referred to as a weight converter, it uses invariant international avoirdupois definitions (1 pound = 0.45359237 kg) and standard SI units. It does not calculate force (such as Newtons or pound-force) or change with local gravity.

What is the difference between a metric ton and imperial or US tons?

This converter supports the metric ton (tonne), which equals exactly 1,000 kilograms (approximately 2,204.62 pounds). It does not include the US short ton (2,000 pounds) or the British Imperial long ton (2,240 pounds).

Are precious metal troy ounces supported in this converter?

No. The ounce here is the standard international avoirdupois ounce (approximately 28.3495 grams, 16 per pound). For South Asian gold and jewelry weights, use our dedicated Tola to Gram Converter.
