How to Use the STAR Technique for Behavioral Questions
Recruiters often ask behavioral questions beginning with, "Tell me about a time when...". The most effective way to address these queries is the STAR Method:
- S - Situation: Set the scene. Describe the event, task, or team context briefly.
- T - Task: Detail the challenge or responsibility you faced in that moment.
- A - Action: Describe the specific actions you took to address the problem. Highlight your individual contributions.
- R - Result: Share the final outcomes. Use measurable metrics (e.g. "Completed project 3 days early," "Saved company $5k") to prove your impact.
