How to use Nepal Land Area Converter

Read a land measurement written as Ropani–Aana–Paisa–Daam and compare it with an area quoted in square feet or square meters. Combined entries add the four quantities; single-unit mode works in either direction between every supported unit. The result is a unit conversion, not a survey or assessment of ownership.

  1. Choose a single unit and value, or select combined mode and enter Ropani, Aana, Paisa and Daam separately. Enter zero for an unused component.
  2. Review all seven equivalent areas. Negative values, commas, missing fields and unsupported numeric formats produce a validation message.
  3. Choose 0–8 decimal places and copy or download the displayed equivalents. Keep sufficient precision when comparing a small parcel.

Calculation rules and sources

The common Nepal Ropani system uses 1 Ropani = 16 Aana = 64 Paisa = 256 Daam = 5,476 square feet. Combined square feet = 5,476 × (Ropani + Aana/16 + Paisa/64 + Daam/256). One square foot is 0.09290304 square meters and one square yard is 9 square feet. All conversions derive from the same base factors, with no rounding of Aana/Paisa/Daam intermediate values. Browser number precision applies; only the displayed result is rounded. Inputs accept up to 8 decimal places and 1 trillion per component. The Bigha–Katha–Dhur system used in other contexts is not silently substituted for this system.

Reference: Nepal municipal construction guidance lists the Ropani/Aana/Paisa/Daam relationships and square-foot convention. Rounded metric figures in printed tables are not chained together here.

Practical questions

Must Aana be below 16 and Paisa/Daam below 4?

These are additive quantity fields, not fixed-width digits. Larger or decimal components are accepted. For example, 16 Aana equals one Ropani; it does not mean sixteen decimal digits appended to a Ropani value.

Does Paisa mean money here?

No. Paisa is an area unit equal to one quarter of an Aana in this land-measurement context. No currency or land price is calculated.

Can I use this for a legal land record?

Check the units and local convention stated in the cadastral record. This uses the documented 5,476-square-foot Ropani convention; a certified survey and the relevant land authority govern official measurements.

Practical examples

A full Ropani

Input
1 Ropani
Result
5,476 sq ft = 508.73704704 sq m

The square-meter figure is derived from the exact international-foot factor rather than the common two-decimal approximation.

A combined property measurement

Input
2 Ropani, 5 Aana, 3 Paisa, 2 Daam
Result
12,962.71875 sq ft

The total is 2.3671875 Ropani. Each component is added before converting to the target unit.

Metric-style comparison

Input
100 square yards
Result
900 square feet

Single-unit mode also compares metric and customary areas without needing a traditional-unit input.
