Introduction
Tech recruiters spend an average of 6 seconds scanning a resume. They are looking for specific signals that you can write code and solve problems. If your resume reads like a generic job description, you will be passed over.
1. The Tech Stack Section (Make it Scannable)
Don't bury your skills in paragraphs. Create a dedicated section near the top listing your technologies clearly. Categorize them: Languages (JavaScript, Python), Frameworks (React, Next.js), Databases (PostgreSQL).
2. Links are Mandatory
A developer without a portfolio is a red flag. Include clickable links to your GitHub profile, your LinkedIn, and your personal portfolio website in the header.
3. Impact-Driven Bullet Points
Instead of saying: "Wrote backend code in Node.js."
Say: "Architected a Node.js microservice that processed 10,000 requests per minute, reducing server latency by 30%."
Always focus on the business impact of your code.
4. Personal Projects
If you are a junior developer lacking formal experience, your "Projects" section is your experience. List 2 or 3 complex projects. Explain the stack used, the problem it solved, and link to the live demo and source code.
5. Clean, ATS-Friendly Formatting
Developers often try to over-design their resumes using fancy CSS. This causes ATS scanners to fail. Keep it clean and text-based. Use a tool like our Resume Builder to generate a perfectly structured, parser-friendly PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Should I list every programming language I have ever touched?
No. Only list languages you are comfortable answering technical interview questions about. Listing a language you used once 5 years ago will backfire if you are tested on it.
