Introduction
You have the perfect experience, but you never get an interview. Sound familiar? Over 70% of resumes are rejected before a human ever sees them because they fail the ATS (Applicant Tracking System) scan. Here is how to beat the bots.
What is an ATS?
An ATS is a software application that scans resumes for keywords, formatting, and experience to filter out unqualified candidates automatically. If the software cannot read your resume because it's too heavily designed, you get auto-rejected.
Rules for an ATS-Friendly Resume
1. Keep Formatting Simple
Bots hate complex designs. Avoid multi-column layouts, sidebars, charts, and graphics. Text should be readable from top to bottom. Use our Resume Builder, which is specifically designed with clean, ATS-readable structures.
2. Use Standard Headings
Do not be creative with your section titles. Use standard terms the bot is programmed to look for: "Work Experience," "Education," "Skills." Do not use terms like "My Journey" or "What I Know."
3. Keyword Optimization
The ATS scans your resume for the exact keywords listed in the job description. If the job asks for "Digital Marketing" and your resume says "Online Promotions," the bot will miss it. Tailor your resume for every single application.
4. Save as PDF
Always export and upload your resume as a standard PDF document (unless the application explicitly asks for a Word Doc). Our Resume Builder automatically generates a clean, parseable PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Should I put my photo on my resume?
In the US and UK, you generally should not include a photo as it can cause ATS parsing errors and raise discrimination concerns. In parts of Europe and Asia, it is more common, but still keep it separate from the main text flow.
