Why Are My Pages Not Indexing?
Learn more about this topic.
The Problem
You spend hours writing the perfect blog post, hit publish, and wait. And wait. Weeks go by, but when you search for your exact title on Google, nothing shows up. Your page is practically invisible.
Why This Happens
Google doesn't automatically index everything on the internet. If your page isn't getting indexed, it usually boils down to a few core reasons: your site is too new, the page is an "orphan" (meaning no other pages on your site link to it), your site structure is messy, or there's a technical block like a rogue 'noindex' tag hiding it from crawlers.
The Solution
First, don't panic. Go into Google Search Console (GSC) and use the URL Inspection Tool. Paste your new URL in the top search bar. If it says "URL is not on Google," click the "Request Indexing" button. This forces Google to take a fresh look. Next, make sure you are actively building internal links to your new content.
A Real Example
Imagine you start a blog about baking and publish a post called "Ultimate Vegan Chocolate Cake." It's great, but you didn't link to it from your homepage or any other recipe. To Google's crawlers, this page is floating alone in space. By going to your older, popular "Baking Tips" post and adding a link pointing to the new cake recipe, you instantly create a bridge for Google to find it.
Your Checklist
- Copy your new URL and paste it into GSC's URL Inspection tool.
- Click "Request Indexing" if it's not on Google.
- Find 2-3 older, related posts on your blog and add internal links to the new post.
- Check your XML sitemap in GSC to ensure the new URL is included.
- Share the post on social media to generate some initial traffic and social signals.
